September 2013 Ipsy Bag

IPSY TIME! I received my September Ipsy Bag today in the mail and wanted to get the review up ASAP!

This month's theme was "Classic Beauty". Here's my thoughts on it....

Starlooks "Obsidian" Khol Liner
Okay, so this is probably the third time I've received a "Starlooks" product in my Ipsy bag and I have not been impressed with ANY of their products. This is a basic khol liner. My biggest issue with this brand is that they stink up the Ipsy bags! They leave that cheap wooden scent lingering in the bags which isn't pleasant to smell for the first time opening your monthly bag.

As for the liner itself, very comparable to Wet n Wild or NYC. I'll stick with my Jordana and Rimmel liners.

NYX Single Eye Shadow in "Purple"
I really enjoy the NYX single shadows. This color in particular would not have been one that I would have chosen had I been at ULTA browsing. However, it's definitely a gorgeous purple color that I can see myself wearing for cool toned smokey eyes.

J Cat Fantabulous Lipstick in "Honeycrisp"
One word....NO. This color was a complete and total miss. As you can probably tell, it's an orangey nude color. I tried it on and besides the color being strange, it had very little color payoff. I just don't see myself giving this color another chance.

It's So Big Mascara by Elizabeth Mott
I always enjoy seeing sample mascaras in my bag. It's always hard to test a great mascara because most makeup counters don't have the actual tester brush to use with the formula. I haven't had a chance to try this one yet but I'm anxious to see how it works out!

Cailyn Tinted Lip Balm
This brand appeared a couple Ipsy bags back. I believe there was a similar contraption to this lip balm, only in an eye liner form. This is an interesting product (packaging wise) I don't exactly see myself reaching for a red tinted lip balm but maybe a base for a bright red lip?

From what I can tell, all of the products were full size this month minus the mascara, which is a plus. However, I think the overall theme of the bag was a total miss. I mean, when I think of "Classic Beauty" I don't think of a bold red lip paired with purple eye shadow.

Props on the sizes, Ipsy, as usual. Maybe a better product selection for October! This is still, by far, the best subscription service I have. Some months are just better than others ;)

What did you guys get in your Ipsy bag this month?

Thanks for reading!

Until next time...
