Bare Minerals Well-Rested Powder vs. Well Rested Pen

Hi everyone! This has been a post I have been dying to do lately! I am so glad I finally got around to doing it!

Bare Minerals recently released their new Well-Rested "pen" for "face and eye brightening". I was very excited to try this product because I am a huge fan of the original powder Well-Rested. I've had the pen for a good month now and I wanted to share some pros/cons and which one I would recommend overall. Enjoy!

Well Rested Pen
Let's start out with the newest product, Well-Rested Pen. There's no doubt that this formula is ground breaking for Bare Minerals. All of their products have been powder up until this recent year. This pen is designed to be not only an eye brightening product, but also a face brightener as well.

Before Well -Rested Pen Application
This is a photo of my overall eye area without ANY makeup (yes I have an abnormal amount of freckles haha). As you can tell I really don't have dark circles but my eye area does tend to get dull or puffy in the mornings.

After Well- Rested Pen Application
This is my eye area AFTER Well-Rested pen application. You may be able to see my eye area seems to be a tad bit more smoother and highlighted. However, if you are looking for coverage you will NOT find it in the pen. It gives a great illuminating effect but coverage is not one of its benefits. I would recommend using this as an overall highlighter for the high points of the face rather than focusing it in just the eye area.

Original Well Rested

Now we move on to the original powder Well-Rested. This trustee powder has always been in my collection ever since I started wearing BE. I use the Well-Rested to give extra coverage and brightness under my eyes and I also use it as concealer, it is a wonderful multi-tasking product like most of BE's cosmetics.

Without Well-Rested Powder
Again, we can see my face has no product on it.

After Well-Rested Powder Application
I think it is safe to say that the original powder not only highlighted my under-eye area, but also provided amazing coverage! You simply cannot beat the original Well-Rested. With coverage, and brightening benefits, I can absolutely recommend this product to anyone.

After my entire makeup application you can see my eye area has improved amazingly from the first photo without either of the well rested products.

Pros/Cons/Overall Thoughts & Recommendations:
  • I would 100% recommend the Original Well-Rested over the pen any day.
  • The Well-Rested Pen is great for touch up highlighting and base highlighting before foundation.
  • If you are looking for coverage + brightness then go for the Original Well-Rested.
  • If you are just looking for highlighting then go for the Pen!

And lastly, I leave you with my full FOTD! Do you guys like my purple turbie twist peeking out in the corner? :)

  1. Question! Should I be using it as a highlighter BEFORE I apply Ready Foundation powder? Or AFTER applying the powder and then blending?
