A primer water - who would have thought? This latest invention from Smashbox has kept me wondering how on earth a water could actually prime your skin. I wasn't willing to invest the full $32 upfront for this product. Luckily, Sephora came through and offered a travel friendly version for $16 - which I could justify in my sick twisted makeup obsessed mind (typical me.)
The description for this product is that it's packed with electrolytes that will revitalize, hydrate and prep the skin for makeup.
Application: As you could imagine, this is super easy to use. Just mist the face a few times, and you're done! The mister doesn't pump out too much product and the mist is very fine.
Feeling: Upon first application my skin does feel super hydrated. It almost leaves a slight tackiness to the face which I can imagine is the actual "priming" effect". I really enjoy how the mist feels on my skin - great refresher!
Scent: There is definitely a scent to this product. However, it is light and fresh - nothing over powering.
Longevity: I generally don't have a problem with my makeup not lasting throughout the day so I can't say for sure if this product helps in that area. The only thing I can say is that it definitely didn't affect the way my makeup wore throughout the day.
So does this thing really prime?: I think this is the biggest question at this point. So many people have different ideas for what "priming" actually is. Some would say hydrating the skin, others would say creating a barrier over the pores. This product, in my opinion, is a hydration booster and skin prepper. You won't find any pore filling agents in it.
So how does a water primer mix with a powder foundation? Well, for me, it personally isn't my favorite combo! I think the water primer is definitely best used with cream or liquid products. The liquid doesn't seem to mesh well with a powder applied on top (on my skin).
Overall Thoughts: Go for it if you're not looking for something that is super pore filling or don't need evening out of the skin. I think this a great product for fresh face makeup days with a little bit of liquid foundation, concealer, and light powder. It's also great for cream contouring because it leaves the skin so hydrated and prepped to blend creams.
