3 Ways to Wear Smoky Eyes & Bold Lips

Hi, guys! I hope you're week is going well. Today I'm sharing some of my favorite ways to wear a smoky eye and bold lip (you'll have to excuse the iPhone photos - I've just been rocking this trend lately and managed to get some shots on my phone).

This look can be intimidating for a lot of people. Sometimes the dramatic eyes and bold lips can combat each other in a negative and unflattering way. I want to share some of my tips and looks with you so you can achieve your own look!

  • Match the Undertone of Both Your Eye Shadows and Lipstick - As you can see in the first photo above, I've paired a warm golden smoky eye (the golden isn't as detectable in this photo but it's there!) with an orangey red lip. Most dramatic eye looks paired with bold lips will have the same undertone. For example, when working with more of a cooler smokey eye (purples, blues, lilacs, etc.) you'll want to match it up with a bold lip that is going to contain more of a blue or purple undertone. This way, you aren't clashing undertones!
  • Keep the Eyes Matte - When you're working with more of a bight metallic lip, keeping the eyes matte will compliment the lip better. When you work shimmer into the eye look along with a metallic look, it can get distracting because all you notice is the metallics and shimmer everywhere. Give the eyes a completely matte smoky finish and play up the lip for more attention.
  • Smoky Eyes Aren't Always Top Heavy - The smoky eye can now be done in so many different ways that some may not even classify it as being "smoky". However, your smoky eye doesn't always have to be dark and dramatic on the top. A gorgeous blown out lower lash line can be just as good as an extravagant eye lid. If you aren't crazy about smoky eyes and bold lips paired together, try focusing on the lower lash line to give an intense effect without worrying if you're eyes are over done. I like to pair this look with a cool or neutral pink. However, this look works well with most lip choices!
I hope this gave you guys some ideas on how to wear both of these intense looks together!
Thank you for reading.

Until next time..

  3. Great explanations, thanks! This really helps me figure out how to use smokey eyes. I almost never do them because I'm afraid it'll be too bold, but this helps a lot!
