My Self-Tanning MUST Haves

Happy Saturday to everyone! As I've been mentioning in every post, I've totally contracted a case of "spring fever". Unfortunately the weather has been so out of whack lately! It even snowed on Wednesday!?

For a couple of weeks now, I've been getting back into my self tanning routine. I just started self-tanning about a year and a half ago when I made the decision to stop using tanning beds after 4 years of non-stop every other day tanning. I first started out spray tanning. Let's just say, I got lazy and quickly resorted to something that was a lot less time consuming and wouldn't require people to see me naked ha!

Today I want to share my current self tanning routine with you. Enjoy!

Exfoliating

Fresh bath body product

Fresh Body Polish

Exfoliating is always the number one pre-step to self tanning, especially if you continuously self tan every week. The key to achieving an even and natural bronzed look with your self tanner starts with your skin. Make sure you exfoliate using some type of sugar scrub or shower gel infused with moisture beads before applying self tanner. This will allow all of the dead skin cells to be washed away, leaving your skin prepped and primed for color.

I have to admit, I have never tried the "fresh" sugar scrub I featured above. I found this while searching online and was automatically intrigued. I love fresh's lip products and this scrub looked just as great. Normally I opt for some yummy smelling scrubs from Bath and Body works like, Warm Vanilla Sugar or Aruba Coconut, those are fantastic as well!

Body Moisturizer

Vaseline Body Moisturizer

When it comes to my skin, I always have to moisturize. No matter how much lotion or moisturizer in general I apply, my skin always absorbs it very quickly. I naturally have dry skin so keeping it moisturized is key for me. Every time, before applying self tanner, I always moisturize my legs, arms, and elbow/knee areas. This will prevent your skin from looking patchy after the self tanner has dried.

A lot of people also like to mix their self tanner with their everyday moisturizer to achieve a lighter tan. This is a great idea for fair-skinned people! Oh, and Vaseline is one of my favorite moisturizers for self tanning. It's not too heavy and not too thin!

Self-Tanner

Bare Escentuals Faux Tan Face

For my self tanner, I look no further than bareMinerals "Faux Tan". It is a gel/lotion self tanner so it applies fairly easy. I would definitely suggest starting out with very small amounts to figure out how deep you want your color (the first time using it is always the hardest). The undertone is almost green when you rub it in, don't worry it blends into the skin as a natural brown color once it's settled. The color is instant, which I like (it's always good to see where you're applying it).

bareMinerals also released the "Faux Tan Face" recently. I just purchased it and I haven't had a chance to try it out yet but I'm pretty excited to! I'll let you know how it goes!

Self-Tanning Mitt

St. Tropez Tan Applicator Mitt

St. Tropez Tan Applicator Mitt

This thing is officially my self tanning life saver. Before I bought a mitt, the self-tanning process was so  much harder. The tanning solution would stain my hands and even application was harder to achieve. Thank God I found the St. Tropez mitt while shopping with my Mom one day. Any self tanning mitt would work but this just so happens to be the brand I ran across first. It basically makes the solution apply so smooth and evenly into the skin. It also reaches hard to get areas like your back. I highly recommend a mitt for any self-tanning product you use!

What does my self-tan look like?

I try to keep my tan at the medium range. I also try to keep my hands and feet a shade lighter so I don't look like an oompa loompa (I always notice people's hands and feet if they've gone crazy with the self tanner...yikes!) You can always build up your color with Faux Tan or even go lighter than what I have :)

I hope you all enjoyed this post! Thanks for reading and have a great weekend!
Until next time....

Love,
Shelbey

  2. Not all tanning hair salons are the very same, and customers are being more mindful about this. They wish to get a deep golden color from their tanning efforts, however they likewise need to know they are safe, get the info they require, be dealt with well when they get in the center, and have their visit time honored. Then they will not stay in company extremely long, if a tanning hair salon cannot provide all of this. the bronzing boutique
