My Go-To Strawberry Banana Smoothie Recipe

Hi everyone! Today's lifestyle blog is over one of my absolute favorite drinks on the planet...SMOOTHIES! This is a quick and simple smoothie recipe I use to incorporate fruits into my daily diet. Enjoy!

How To: Strawberry Banana Smoothie

What You'll Need:
  • 1 small banana
  • Smoothie Mix (powder form) in your flavor choice
  • Frozen Strawberries
  • Almond Breeze Unsweetened Vanilla Milk (40 calorie carton)
  • Blender

  • Place 1 cup of frozen strawberries and the small banana (sliced) in the blender.
  • Pour half of the smoothie mix over the fruit.
  • Add a little over a cup of the Almond Milk to the blender (less if you like your smoothies thicker).
  • Blend to your desired consistency and enjoy!

Calories and Fat:
  • Serving Size: About 16 fl oz.
  • Calories: 285
  • Fat: 3.8 grams
Tricks To Reduce Calories:
  • Use less of the smoothie mix. It contains the most calories.
  • Choose something other than a banana. Banana's generally have more calories than other fruits.
  • If you are really brave, use water instead of almond milk. (You'll only save 40 calories though) not worth it to me!
  • Of course, you can also make a 12 oz smoothie rather than 16! I generally make these for work whenever I go in at 10am and don't get to eat until 2ish so more calories doesn't bother me.

I hope you all enjoyed this quick and simple smoothie recipe. Let me know if you try it!

Weekly Beauty Bargains: 7/22/12

Hi everyone! I'm back with a few beauty items I have found for a great deal this week! A couple of the items I got last week but should still be available. Hope you enjoy!

Brands featured: Wet n Wild, Maybelline, Cover Girl, Clean & Clear

Clean & Clear "Finishes: Mattifying Moisturizer
Where to find: Big Lots
Sale Price: $3.80

I picked up this moisturizer after watching one of my favorite beauty bloggers (Lillian Masie) talk about it in one of her videos.  This is an oil-free moisturizer that is supposed to leave your face with a mattified finish and help absorb oil through out the day. Now my skin is more on the dry side so I was curios to see how this would work. It is definitely a light moisturizer but doesn't leave your skin with that shiny "just moisturized" look. I would highly recommend it to combination to oily skin types!

Cover Girl "Lash Blast" Mascara (Original, Fusion, & Luxe)
Where to find: Big Lots
Sale Price: $1.50
Okay, so I can't take credit for this find. I was notified by one of my friends that Big Lots had a stash of Lash Blast mascara on sale for $1.50. Of course I rushed over to investigate and I discovered that all three types of Lash Blast were on sale! I picked up 4 ( I will probably go back for more) haha. My Big Lots displayed the original, Fusion, and Luxe Lash Blast mascara which I though was great. There's a selection for everyone!

Maybelline Eye Studio Eye Shadow Trio
Where to find: Big Lots
Sale Price: $2.50
I was excited to see Big Lots have some actual wearable shadows that were in decent condition. I only spotted two different colored trios and decided that this gold, purple, and pink would be a pretty choice. These are cream shadows with a hint of shimmer. The pigment is really great in these! I was very surprised because I'm not a huge cream shadow fan. Be sure to check your big lots for these cute trios!

Maybelline Eye Studio Marbled Eye Shadow in "Mocha Mirage"
Where to find: CVS Pharmacy
Sale Price: 50% off original pricing of $7.49 (about $3.75)

I went on a hunt this morning at about 9 in the morning for Walgreens and CVS' weekly sales that change every Sunday. I picked up this little guy at CVS when I saw a 50% off sticker on it. I have actually never tried these eye shadows and figured this would be a good opportunity! I absolutely loved the color! I wore it today with a light tinted moisturizer and a little blush. It was so pretty and subtle. The pigmentation was also great. CVS had about 4 or five color choices which was awesome as well!
Wet n Wild "Mega Glo" Illuminating Powder
Where to find: K Mart, CVS, Walmart etc.
Price: $3.99/ Compared to Cargo's Beach Blushes $30

I stumbled upon this interesting compact in K Mart and knew I had seen a similar high end product somewhere before. I decided to buy it (it was not on sale but 3.99 is considered almost sale price to me) and take it home to do some research to find the product so similar that was slipping my mind. Finally I realized it was almost identical to Cargo's Beach Blushes! The Beach Blushes generally retail for $30 dollars! As you can tell from the picture they are very similar. I love this little compact because it is extremely versatile. You can use it as a highlighting powder, eye shadow, or even a bronzer. For $3.99 that's a lot of use!

Wet n Wild "Glamorous Everyday Fabulous Every Way" Kit
Where to Find: Walgreens
Sale Price: $1.99

My last find was one of the best and funnest bargains I have found in a while! Last week I discovered a few of these kits at Walgreens with an extremely low price of $1.99 (this is cheaper than their mascara?!) I immediately stocked up and got 3 of them (they only came in two colors). The kit features a color icon eye liner, eye shadow trio in "I'm Getting Sunburned", Mega Slicks lip gloss, and Mega Plump mascara. The products are mini size except for the eye shadow BUT for $1.99 you can't really complain. Not to mention these kits are great for travel! Go check out your Walgreens to see if any are still hangin' out!

Well guys, that's it for my weekly bargain finds! Hope you all enjoyed and are able to get your hands on these items!

Face of the Day: Fun and Flirty

Hi everyone! I'm back with a Face of the Day post. A lot of my followers asked how I got this makeup look so I wanted to blog and let you all know! If you would like to see how I apply everything then click here to view my "Get Ready with Me: Work Edition" video! Enjoy!

For my lips I chose a fun combination of pinks to keep the look fresh and girly. The colors I picked were Bare Minerals Pretty Amazing Lip Color (pictured left) in the color "Confidence" and Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lip Gloss in "Smooth Talker" (pictured right).

I used my absolute favorite eye shadow duo from Bare Minerals called "The Nick of Time". This compact is the perfect combination of colors for a soft and subtle smokey look. As for my mascara, I chose another one of my favorites from BE in "Flawless Definition".

One of my favorite summertime blushes at the moment is "The Whisper". This soft and unique blush blends with light to medium skin tones for a natural enhancement for the cheeks. It's not too pink and not too bare. It also mixes with bronzer AMAZINGLY! The bronzer I used was "The High Dive". This is a light golden bronzer that adds a hint of sun kissed glow to the cheeks.

Of course, we can't forget the base. My current shade in Bare Minerals foundation is "Light" w15. This foundation has a warm undertone, meaning it has a golden/yellow finish. It is perfect for counteracting redness in the face. I never wear my makeup without a primer. The first thing I always do is apply my faithful Prime Time! This is a silicon based primer that works to fill in your pores and give your face a smooth base for the foundation.

Alright guys, that's it for my FOTD. I hope you enjoyed this bareMinerals inspired look. See you next time!

Have a lovely day. -Shelbey

Lifestyle Blog #3: Healthy Dinner for One

Hi everyone! Back with another lifestyle blog for you all! This week I decided to share a quick and simple meal that I recently fixed up. This meal is perfect for a single dinner or if you simply want a smaller portioned dinner.

Parmesan Seasoned Pork Chops with Sauteed Mushrooms

What You Will Need:
  • 1 pork chop
  • 1 pack of Kraft Parmesan Seasoning
  • Salt & Pepper
  • 1 pack of sliced Baby Bella mushrooms
  • Fresh Garlic
  • Soy Sauce

Prep/Directions for Pork Chop:

  • Preheat Oven to 350 degrees
  • Season Pork Chop with Salt and Pepper
  • Rub Parmesan Seasoning over both sides of the pork chop (generously)
  • Place Pork Chop in a pan and bake for 45 minutes
  • After the pork chop is cooked fully you may season extra if needed. Enjoy!
  • Tip- To prevent the pork chop from becoming "mushy" or "soggy" from the juices, place the pork chop on a wire tray.

Prep/Directions for Mushrooms:

  • Wash Mushrooms
  • Preheat the skillet by adding the fresh garlic and letting it brown before adding mushrooms
  • After garlic has browned, add the mushrooms.
  • Add soy sauce to the mushrooms as they cook (about 1/4 cup depending on how many mushrooms you are cooking)
  • The mushrooms should start to caramelize a small amount (this gives the mushrooms an amazing flavor!)
  • Add a small amount of pepper before placing the mushrooms on your plate.

Excuse the hot pink plate! I haven't found the right dishes for my new apartment yet, so I just have fun summer plates! haha!

I hope you all enjoyed this dinner post. This meal is SO easy to do and perfect for a night when you don't have much time to prepare dinner. I'll see you in the next post!

Have a lovely day. -Shelbey

Alexis Bledel & Ashley Greene Inspired Makeup

Hi everyone! I have been rather lazy with my blogging sessions lately so I haven't been posting too much. Today I wanted to share a couple looks I was inspired from Alexis Bledel and Ashley Greene. These are both looks that I chose from their earlier career (I wanted to do something different) . If you would like to see the products I used then keep reading!

Alexis Bledel

I immediately fell in love with Alexis' light complexion and eyes with a pop of bold pink on the lips!

Tips for this Look:
  • To create a light complexion like Alexis, skip your all over bronzer and also contouring bronzer.
  • Use the lightest amount of foundation (base) as possible. Alexis does not have a full coverage look.
  • Apply a generous amount of mascara to the top and bottom lashes.
  • You may apply a thing amount of eye liner to the top lid for extra definition (I chose not to though).
  • Pick out a BOLD and long wearing pink lip color (stain works best).
Products Used:
  • Bare Minerals SPF 15 Original Foundation in "Light"
  • Bare Minerals READY Blush in "The Faux Pas"
  • Wet n' Wild Protein Mascara
  • Maybelline Falsies Mascara
  • Matte cream colored eye shadow
  • Revlon Just Bitten Balm Stains in "Smitten"

Ashley Greene

This is definitely an older picture of Ashley Greene. However, I was really inspired by the burnt red lips! I am hoping to do one of her updated looks whenever I have a bit more time on my hands!

Tips for this Look:
  • The lips are key. Find a mellow red lipstick with a brown undertone (like a brick red).
  • Make sure to apply a medium brown shadow to the crease for definition (nothing too over dramatic).
  • Stay away from the pink blushes. Ashley has a warmth to her cheeks from an orange undertoned blush or bronzer.
Products Used:
  • Bare Minerals SPF 15 Original Foundation in "Light"
  • Bare Minerals READY Blush in "The One"
  • Bare Minerals READY Bronzer in "The High Dive"
  • Wet n Wild Protein Mascara
  • Bare Minerals Coffee Bean Powder Liner
  • Any medium brown eye shadow
  • Rose Crepe Lipstick by Bare Minerals

Thanks for reading guys!

Lifestyle Blog #2: Quick 160 Calorie Breakfast

Hi everyone! I'm back with a weekly food/lifestyle blog! This week I chose to share my FAVORITE healthy on-the-go breakfast with you. I generally only have 2 days off a week due to my work schedule so I wake up fairly early to get ready each morning for work. This quick and healthy meal never fails me! I like to call it my "Cheesy Bacon and Egg Breakfast Sandwhich" and it is extremely tasty not to mention QUICK to make!

What You'll Need:

  • Healthy Life Multi-Grain 80 Calorie English Muffins (If you don't like English Muffins then you can substitute with Healthy Life Whole Grain 35 calorie bread, this will reduce the total calorie count to 10 calories less)
  • Fat Free Cheese Slices (I preffer the taste of Borden to Kraft)
  • 1 slice of Turkey Bacon
  • 100% Liquid Egg Whites (Plain or South Western)
  • Toaster Oven

  • Split english muffin in half and place the cheese slice on one half of the muffin
  • Place english muffin with cheese in the toaster oven until cheese is melted and the tops are toasted (I keep my oven on 450 degrees for about 4 minutes)
  • While english muffin is toasting, place your Turkey Bacon in the microwave for 2 minutes or until your desired crispiness
  • After cooking the bacon place 3-4 tbs of the liquid egg whites in a bowl and microwave for 45 seconds or until cooked thoroughly
  • Place turkey bacon and egg whites on the freshly toasted english muffin and enjoy!

Thanks for reading guys! I really hope you enjoy these food lifestyle blogs!

Scarlett Johansson Inspired Makeup

I recently received a celebrity inspired makeup request I had honestly never thought about, Scarlett Johansson. After getting this request I researched some of her makeup looks and came across this one. I immediately fell in love with the glowing complection and subtle smokey eyes with a bronze flare.

If you would like to know how to get this look, all of the products I used will be listed below! If you do not have the products I used I will also be posting what they look like so you can find similar colors :)

Tips For This Look:
  • First and foremost, to get the exact complection type Scarlett has you will need to use an luminating foundation or a lot of highliting after foundation. I use only powder foundation so before I added my powder I mixed a liquid highlighter with my moisturizer to give my skin more of a "glow".
  • This is a smokey look. HOWEVER, it is a very subtle smokey look. Make sure to not blend your darkest color past the crease. This will interfere with the pop of bronze in the crease.
  • Place your black eye liner on your top lid before applying shadow. Scarlett has eye liner but it it smudged into her eye shadow.
  • The inner corner highlight is a MUST! This is what will really make your eyes pop with the end result.
Face Products:
  1. Advanced Protection SPF 20 Moisturizer (Bare Minerals)
  2. The Color of Grace Heavenly Light Pink Illuminator (Philosophy)
  3. Primetime Foundation Primer (Bare Minerals)
  4. Original SPF 20 Foundation in "Light" (Bare Minerals)
  5. The High Dive bronzer (Bare Minerals)
  6. The Whisper Blush (Bare Minerals)
  7. Turn On highlighting powder (Bare Minerals)
Eye Products:
  1. Stay Don't Stray eye lid primer (Benefit)
  2. Big and Bright eye liner in "Black Diamond" (Bare Minerals)
  3. Lid Color- "Enchanted" eye shadow (Bare Minerals) *Smokey dark grey with a blue undertone
  4. Crease Color- "Mischevious Marissa" (The Balm) *Bronze eye shadow
  5. Highlight Color-Matte cream colored eye shadow
  6. Rimmel Gam Eyes Day 2 Night Mascara
  1. Marvelous Moxie Plumping lip gloss in "Party Starter" (Bare Minerals) * Coral lipgloss

I really enjoyed doing this look and I am very happy with the end result. This isn't a look I would normally do but I have to say I might have to switch things up a bit now that I've discovered how easy and wearable it is! Thank you to Brittney for requesting this look. I hope you and everyone else enjoys!

Have a lovely day. -Shelbey

Lifestyle Blog #1: Snack of the Week

Hi everyone! I recently posted a photo of some healthy foods I've been making and I got a lot of requests for the recipes and what not. I ask on twitter if you all would like to see a "Life Style" section for my blog and I got a lot of positive feedback. SO, with that being said...I would like to introduce you to a new segment to this blog! Once a week I will post a snack OR meal I have made! Please feel free to leave me your comments and feedback. I hope you all enjoy!

Baked Parmesan Zucchini Chips
This recipe is extremely easy and can be made as a snack OR side item for your dinner!

What you'll need:
1 Zucchini
Grated Parmesan Cheese
Any Butter Substitute Spray
Cooking Spray

Prep Instructions:
-Preheat oven to 350 degrees
-Slice zucchini thinly
-Lightly coat a baking sheet covered in aluminum foil with non-stick cooking spray
-Lay zucchini on baking sheet and spray the butter substitute over each piece
-Season zucchini with salt then sprinkle the grated parmesan generously over each piece

Cooking Instructions:
-Place zucchini in the oven for 15-20 minutes (as soon as the cheese starts to brown)
-Take out and enjoy hot or let cool and eat later as a snack!

Health-ier Chocolatey Muffins
Ok, so I HAVE to give Dashing Dish blog credit for this awesome recipe. I stumbled upon this and decided to try it out for myself. These are delcious BUT healthy muffins without all the oil and butters added in. I am so pleased with how they cam out!
WARNING: Do NOT taste the batter until it is cooked!
(not so delicious) haha

-1 3/4 cup Oats
-3 egg whites (I used 3 1/2 pre-packaged liquid egg whites)
-3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
-1/2 cup Unsweetened Apple Sauce
-1tsp Vanilla Extract
-1/2 cup of Plain Fat Free Greek Yogurt (or Vanilla)
-1/2 tsp Cream of Tartar
-1 1/2tsp Baking Powder
-1 1/2 tsp Baking Soda
-1/4 tsp salt
-1 cup hot water
-1 cup sugar substitute
-1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
-Cupcake liners (unless you want to pre-grease the pan with cooking spray)

Prep Instructions:
-Preheat oven to 350 degrees
-Blend oats in a processor or blender until they are very fine (a little less than a powder)
-Mix all ingredients in a bowl EXCEPT for chocolate chips
-Stir ingredients until everything is mixed together well
-Add 1/2 cup of the chocolate chips (more if you'd like ;) )
-Place batter into cupcake liners (or greased pan if you choose not to use liners)
-For larger muffins don't be afraid to fill batter to the top of the liner (they don't rise as much as a cupcake would)

Cooking Instructions:
-Place muffins in oven for 10-15 minutes
-Take muffins out (leave the oven on) and place extra chocolate chips on top
-Place muffins back into the oven for 5 more minutes (or until center is not runny)
-Take muffins out and enjoy hot or let cool!

I really hope you all enjoy these recipes. I DEFINITELY won't be posting food I would not eat or haven't tried. I love finding new healthy recipes to try and these two are some of my latest finds! Please feel free to leave your comments and how the recipe turned out for you!

Have a lovely day. -Shelbey

Festive and Casual 4th of July OOTD

Happy 4th of July!
Today I wanted to show you how I paired my 4th of July outfit for the more "festive" people and for those who like to be more casual for this holiday. Enjoy!

Festive Outfit
For my patriotic side I paired a white slouch top with a ribbon belted semi high waist pair of shorts. I accessorized with A LOT of gold and a hint of red with the TOMS.

I really wanted to make a statement with my accessories for this look. I started with a long gold anchor necklace. For earrings I wore these gorgeous large (faux) pearls with gold detailing. Finally, I chose some simple gold bracelets to give my wrists a hint of gold.

The shoes for this outfit definitely pulled this look together! I chose my super comfortable TOMS to add a cute and colorful piece to top off the final look :)

Casual Outfit
If you're more of a casual girl for the fourth then I also have a look for you! I paired the same top and bottoms with some brown and bronze accents!

Instead of paring the look with a bold shoe I chose these cute and comfy brown sandals from Old Navy. They also include the gold/bronze detailing on the thong strap.

I paired my FAVORITE bronze earrings with floral detailing and a few brown and gold bracelets with this look to keep it simple, but to also keep the gold accents going.

I hope you all enjoyed this look!
Check out my 4th of July OOTD on YouTube!

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe Independence Day :)

Have a lovely day. -Shelbey
